A couple of weeks ago MacCentral brought readers news that German Mac game developer/publisher e.p.i.c. interactive had finished the Macintosh conversion of the adventure/role-playing game Gorky 17. Company spokesperson Thomas Steiding indicated that Gorky 17 had gone gold master, signifying the last major milestone before a game goes into production. Today we’ve received word that Gorky 17 is now shipping.
In Gorky 17, you take command of an elite military force that must infiltrate a “secret city” deep within Russia — a remnant of a Soviet cold war experiment that’s gone horribly wrong. The city is populated by horrifying genetically engineered creatures, and it’s up to you to combat them and to finally uncover the secret of Gorky 17 once and for all.
The game features Softimage-created full motion video scenes and a “realistic and rich” plot that puts you in the center of the action, according to e.p.i.c.
Gorky 17 runs on both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, though e.p.i.c. recommends Mac OS X for optimal results. Other system requirements call for a G3/300 or faster processor, 128MB RAM, 8MB video system. Recommended system requirements call for a G3/500, 128MB RAM, and a 16/32MB video system.
