The folks at dvGarage, the QuickTime-only site dedicated to “building the next generation of visual media artists,” have released their “Guerrilla FX: Masters of the Desktop” DVD.
The Jan. 7 engagement hosted some of the biggest names in Mac-based visual effects, Alex Lindsay, founder of dvGarage, told MacCentral. dvGarage, CG Channel (a Web-based publication for the 3D animation, visual effects and computer graphics industry), and the San Francisco SIGGRAPH Chapter sponsored the event.
Present were Lindsay (who formerly worked for Industrial Light & Magic), Kory Jones (Reality Check), David Dozoretz (Lucasfilm), John Knoll (co-creator of Photoshop and visual effects supervisor of Star Wars: Episode 1 and 2), Eric Chauvin (digital matte artist on Star Trek: Voyager, Star Wars re-releases, The Mask, and more), Steven Walker (“ABC,” “Behind Enemy Lines,” and more), Scott Pasko (rendering and global illumination expert), Dave Macomber (co-creator of Duality).
These experts spent a day sharing their experience with over 300 visual media artists. There are a few samples of the disk on the dvGarage Web site.
“Mac users will be able to find Apple’s presence everywhere,” Lindsay said.
The DVD includes much of the event, as well as individual interviews with each master as part of its six-hours plus of content. The cost is US$60 until the end of the month.
