KVM maker Gefen, Inc. announced that it’s shipping its DVI Switcher — versatile devices that can enable up to four computers to share a Digital Visual Interface (DVI) based display system. The DVI Switcher also routes USB and audio connectivity.
Gefen makes two different models of DVI Switcher — the US$499 2×1 DVI Switcher, and the $799 4×1 DVI Switcher. With the 2×1 model, users can connect two computers to a single DVI equipped monitor. With the 4×1 model, you can connect up to four computers and one display.
The 4×1 model also enables users to configure two separate computers with two displays, thus creating a dual-screen, digital workstation system using four DVI connections, two USB interfaces and two audio cables to connect all the equipment.
The DVI Switchers themselves are equipped with selection buttons that enable you to specify which computer will use the display. Remote control units are also available, if the DVI Switcher needs to be installed in a location that isn’t easily accessible.
The DVI Switcher is available online at Gefen’s Web site or through the company’s dealer distribution network.
