Boris FX, the folks who develop integrated graphics and effects technology, have announced several new agreements to cross promote their products and services.
For one, Boris FX has announced that the latest versions of Boris FX Professional and Boris GRAFFITI Professional will be included as part of the TurboPack, with new Avid Xpress 2D and 3D systems (formerly Deluxe and Elite).
Boris FX Professional is the solution for integrated effects creation in nonlinear editing: compositing and animation of timeline video or imported media in three dimensions, with features including animated apply modes, motion blur, particles, lighting effects and displacement mapping.
Boris Graffiti 2.0, released last month, is an integrated vector-based titling package that supports Apple Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere, among others. It’s compatible with both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X (version 10.1 and higher). Its vector tools allow easy creation of sophisticated animations such as text on path, with exceptional sharpness, according to Boris Yamnitsky, company founder and president. Along with animation tools such as Type On and Title Containers for auto-animated rolls, crawls, fades, shuffles and zooms, Graffiti 2.0 allows users to map text to 3D shapes, and extrude and composite in three dimensions. Graffiti 2.0 also supports the addition of third-party Adobe After Effects filters.
Avid Technology will bring Avid Xpress DV v3, its portable video editing solution, to Mac OS X by mid-year. The US$1,699 product will sport over 100 customizable real-time effects and multiple simultaneous streams. Avid Xpress DV v3 effects are fully customizable and previewed onscreen exactly as they will appear when rendered, according to Joe Bentivegna, vice president of Avid’s Video Development & Operations.
“The Avid AVX effects architecture allows third-party vendors like Boris FX to extend the power of Avid users to create the widest possible range of effects,” said Ray Gilmartin, Avid Xpress product manager. “We are pleased to offer such highly regarded products as Boris FX and GRAFFITI as excellent examples of the value added to Avid systems through integration.”
Boris FX has also announced support for video display to external monitors through the
Digital Voodoo family of uncompressed and high definition video cards. Support for Digital Voodoo’s video out will be introduced in Boris RED, with other products to follow. These include Boris FX, featuring integrated visual effects, particles and image processing, and Boris GRAFFITI, featuring integrated vector graphics and 2D and 3D title animation.
Boris RED contains a 2D and 3D title animation feature for both Mac and Windows/NT non-linear editing applications. It’s designed for professionals in the commercial television, non-linear online/finishing market. Boris RED contains all the features of two other Boris products, BorisAE (production oriented compositing filters for After Effects) and Boris FX (a special effects plug-in application for non-linear editing systems), plus 3D particle effects, motion blur, advanced masking and plug-in portal technology.
What’s more, Boris FX said that Incite Multimedia Corp. would bundle Boris FX 6 with all new copies of Incite Editor. Boris FX is software for integrated effects creation in nonlinear editing. Boris FX 6 offers compositing of unlimited layers of media in three dimensions, and preview of compositions with audio using RAM or disk based playback. Compositing features include animated apply modes, motion blur, particles, lighting effects and displacement mapping. Users can create self-animating natural effects such as snow, rain, fire, clouds and stars, which can interact with video and other media.
Finally, Boris FX is implementing compatibility with the Sony XPRI family of nonlinear editing systems working with compressed and uncompressed video, at standard and high definition.
