Fuji Photo Film U.S.A. says two of its newest digital camera models, the FinePix 30i and FinePix F601Zoom, are now available.
The US$399 FinePix 30i is a wallet-sized digital camera that features MP3 playback, voice annotation, video conferencing and digital audio and video recording capabilities. Already popular in Europe and Asia, it comes with QuickTime 5.0 and MacMP3 for the Mac. The FinePix 30i provides 2.0 million effective pixel CCD (2.1 million total pixels).
By speaking into the camera’s built-in microphone, you can attach 30-second voice notes to each photo. The FinePix 30i doubles as a MP3 player by letting you download and play back MP3 files. An included 16MB SmartMedia card can store up to 20 minutes of music; an optional 128MB card can hold up to 160 minutes. The FinePix 30i can record up to 33 minutes of audio on the bundled 16MB SmartMedia card and 272 minutes on an optional 128MB card.
The digital device comes with a backlit remote control. You can use it to include yourself in pictures, scroll through photos and display the titles and artist names of MP3 tracks. The FinePix 30i’s digital video recorder can take up to 20-second bursts of AVI video with sound and can double as a videocam for video conferencing.
It will come bundled with two, rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries, charger, 16MB SmartMedia card, shoulder strap, USB cable and headphones with remote control. The FinePix 30i weighs 5.6 ounces without batteries.
FinePix F601 Zoom is targeted to the digital picture taker “who demands everything from a camera — vibrant color, premier point-and-shoot performance, pocket-able size and trendy good looks,” according to Darin Pepple, brand manager, Consumer Digital Products, Consumer Markets Division, Fuji Photo Film.
The $599 FinePix F601 Zoom, due in April, is targeted to the serious hobbyist. It can deliver 2832 x 2128 (6.03 million) recorded pixels for 8 x 10-inch prints. Plus, the camera’s Super EBC Fujinon 3x optical zoom (with up to 4.4x digital zoom) enables it to take detailed close-ups.
The FinePix F601 Zoom can capture AVI digital video with sound at full VGA (640 x 480) and QVGA (320 x 240) resolutions at 15 frames per second.
Like its predecessor, the FinePix 6800 Zoom, the FinePix F601 Zoom lets you attach 30-second voice notes to each image. Its shutter speeds range from three to 1/2000 of a second with adjustable ISO sensitivity of 160/200/400, including a high sensitivity one-megapixel (1280 x 960) mode at ISO 800/1600 that features Fujifilm’s noise reduction technology. The FinePix F601 Zoom offers continuous shooting at the one megapixel (maximum 1.8 frames/sec up to 40 images at 1280 x 960) and six megapixel (maximum five frames/sec up to four images) modes.
