Symantec has updated its Norton AntiVirus product to version 8.0.1. You’ll need to use the LiveUpdate feature to get the update (which includes new virus definitions) since it’s not available for download yet.
Norton AntiVirus works automatically in the background to find and remove viruses-without interrupting your work. It even detects viruses in e-mail and Internet files while they’re being downloaded to your computer. It can also run scans on a schedule of your choice. Symantec’s LiveUpdate technology checks for new virus definitions via the Internet and automatically downloads them to your computer.
Norton AntiVirus 8.0 provides Auto Protect, SafeZone scanning and repair, LiveUpdate scheduling via Norton Scheduler, and command line scanning. The Universal Safezone feature is for all mounted disks, David Loomstein, Symantec’s group product manager, Consumer & Client Product Delivery, told MacCentral.
The product runs on Mac OS 8.1 or higher (with the CarbonLib extensions installed) or Mac OS X 10.1 or higher. Norton AntiVirus 8.0 retails for US$69.95.
