If you don’t mind experimenting with beta software, there are three such products that have new beta versions for Mac OS X.
R-Name, an application for renaming multiple files, is up to version 1.0.3b. You can now drop files after R-Name is launched. You don’t have to quit for renaming other files after you’ve finished a renaming. Plus, you can now clear the old and new files list.
R-Name has several ways to rename files. You can find and replace characters in filenames, add extensions or make files numbered sequential. The latest, and free, beta version (a 147k file) can be downloaded from the tayo Web site.
SpeakIt, a text editor that can speak as you type either by word or in sentences, is now up to version 1.0b3.1. It can read any text or RTF file that’s opened or pasted and offers full control over voices. The latest beta version fixes some bugs and improves performance. SpeakIT 10.b3.1 is freeware and can be download (it’s a 313k file) from Out of Work Software.
Sharity 2.7b4 is the latest rev of the CIFS/SMB client that mounts files from Windows networking. The new beta version fixes some bugs and improves browsing compatibility. It’s a 2MB download from Objective Development.
Sharity, which will cost US$59 when finished, connects your Mac OS X or Unix machine to Windows and other CIFS file servers. The application mounts these servers in your filesystem, which means that you can open files directly from the server with any application you like, as if they were on a local disk. Sharity is a CIFS client only.
