Parker Software Development has released NewsHunter 1.5.4 (formerly Baker), an application that automates the process of downloading images and files from Usenet newsgroups. It’s available in both Mac OS Classic and Mac OS X versions.
The announcement follows an agreement between Parker Software and Eridanus. The latter developed the product, which was previously called Baker.
“Basically, Parker is going to be marketing the software developed by our company,” said Mike Trivisonno of Eridanus. “Baker and Baker Classic have been given new identities and will now be sold under the names NewsHunter and NewsHunter Classic.”
The NewsHunter product offers Persistent Article Queues, which allow NewsHunter to suspend and resume downloads. There is also support for multiple documents and multiple news server accounts, as well as automatic assembly of multipart posts and configurable download folders for each newsgroup. To make tech support easier, NewsHunter can also generate detailed error and event logs that can be emailed to Parker Software, Trivisonno said.
Owners of Baker and Baker Classic can upgrade to NewsHunter and NewsHunter Classic for free. Your old registration keys will work with the new programs. Also available now from Parker Software is Archer, a free multimedia slide show player that was developed by Eridanus.
You can download unregistered versions of NewsHunter and NewsHunter Classic that are fully functional, won’t time out, and don’t expire. However, they’re going to offer pop up reminders on occasion urging you pay the US$49.95 registration fee. NewsHunter, NewsHunter Classic and Archer can be downloaded from the Parker Software Development Web site.
