First Tech Computer Inc. has announced that it’s been authorized by Apple to provide hands-on technical training in its Minneapolis, MN facility. First Tech spokesman Ron Hongell told MacCentral that First Tech is now the only Apple Authorized Training Center in Minnesota. The company offers specific technical training for users who want to add Apple certification to their accomplishments.
Apple offers an Apple Certified Technical Coordinator (ACTC) certification track, useful for people who aren’t full-time system admins but who manage a modest network of machines. First Tech explained that ACTCs are often business or education technology specialists and designated power users, or help desk personnel.
First Tech offers two courses for students interested in preparing for the ACTC certification exam track — Mac OS X Administration Basics and Mac OS X Server Essentials. The combined courses cost US$2,495 and last five days. Student learn how to manage Mac OS X client and server systems, install and configure software, e-mail, printing, file sharing, Internet and Web access, startup and shutdown, testing and troubleshooting.
First Tech also announced plans to offer Apple Certified System Administrator (ACSA) training later this year. This track is designed specifically for full-time professional system managers who handle medium to large networks of Mac systems in multi-platform environments. Four courses are given for this track: Mac OS X Administration Basics, Mac OS X Network Administration, Mac OS X Services Integration and Mac OS X Client Management.
