JAW software has updated MPEG2Splitter, a utility for MPEG-2 movies, to version 1.4. The new version offers Mac OS X 10.1.4 compatibility and enhanced compatibility with some MPEG-2 “dialects.” It also adds online registration and fixes some bugs.
MPEG2Splitter splits MPEG-2 files in smaller user-defined segments, manually or automatically, from any size source — even over the usual 2GB limit, according to company reps. This is useful when you need to re-encode video using programs that can’t manage files bigger than this or when you simply need to split encoding tasks.
MPEG2Splitter 1.4 requires Mac OS 9.x (with the CarbonLib 1.4 extension installed), Mac OS 10.0.4 or later, and 3.5MB of available memory. You can download a 15-day trial version of MPEG2Splitter from the JAW Web site; after this period, registration is US$15.
