There’s good news for Mac schools in England and Wales. This is Science Year in the UK and, as a result, each school was given an Intel Play QX3 USB microscope.
Alas, the microscopes came with Windows drivers and software only. Though there are alternatives for Mac users such as the digital microscopes made by Scala, unfortunately in this instance there was no choice — it was Intel or nothing.
“Now some very kind open source developers have written drivers for Mac OS X for the QX3 and it works like a dream,” David Baugh, Apple Distinguished Educator, told MacCentral.
You can download the macam 0.6, a Webcam driver for various USB webcams, from the Source Forge Web site.
