WWDC attendees will be able to see the new FileMaker Mobile for i-mode software, which allows instant database publishing on the i-mode “smart phones” that are popular in Japan. FileMaker will demonstrate two solutions that ship with FileMaker Mobile for i-mode: Mobile Groupware (including Scheduler, Meeting Room Reservation, Bulletin Board, Contact List, Bookmark, etc.), and Mobile Sales Tool.
Japan is undergoing an “information revolution” thanks to i-mode smart phones, according to Dominique Goupil, FileMaker president. More than 30 million people use smart phones and the Japan-wide i-mode infrastructure for mobile email and Internet access. Increasingly, i-mode users want business info on their phones, ranging from their workgroup’s calendars to hotel and airline reservations.
“i-mode road warriors” will be able to share info residing in FileMaker databases on computers running FileMaker Mobile for i-mode. With a few steps, FileMaker users can transform their databases into “i-mode ready” information, so mobile users can instantly and dynamically browse, edit, add, delete, search and sort records from i-mode phones. Every time the FileMaker database is updated, FileMaker Mobile for i-mode automatically generates new i-mode pages, so smart phone users always see the latest data, Goupil said.
The rest of the FileMaker line, including developer tools, includes: FileMaker Pro 5.5, FileMaker Server 5.5, FileMaker Pro 5.5 Unlimited and FileMaker Developer 5.5. FileMaker, Inc. is the database software subsidiary of Apple.
