KVM peripheral maker Gefen Inc. has announced its ex-tend-it DVI Hub. The device enables users to attach two digital flat panel monitors through their DVI interfaces.
Although Apple prefers to use Apple Display Connector (ADC) on its own digital flat panel displays, Digital Visual Interface (DVI) is the cable connector commonly used by third-party flat panel screen makers. DVI is even installed by Apple on its new 800MHz PowerBook G4. The US$599 device can work with two ADC-equipped Apple flat panel screens when connected to a pair of DVI to ADC adapters, which Gefen also sells. Gefen noted that the DVI Hub could extend the length of a connection between the screen or screens and the computer by up to 150 feet.
In addition to running two digital flat panel screens (with the same image) simultaneously, Gefen also noted that the DVI Hub is useful when driving a DVI-equipped monitor and projector, or for any other purpose where it’s handy to view the same image simultaneously on two screens.
