SmartDisk has introduced a new model of their portable, bus-powered FireWire CD-RW drive, which should be available by the middle of the month.
The 16 x 10 x 24 version of the SmartDisk drive doesn’t need a battery or AC adapter, and is targeted to road warriors who need such a device when away from the home or office. The device gets its power from your Mac’s FireWire bus via a standard three-foot FireWire cable. It features buffer underrun prevention for error-free CD writing, even while your desktop or laptop system is performing multiple tasks.
The drive (5.6- x 7- x 1-inches) features plug & play support, a front-loading/ejection CD tray, and a headphone jack. It comes with CD burning software for Mac and Windows, although specific applications or system requirements were not revealed. The SmartDisk FireWire Portable CD-RW drive will be priced at US$249.95 and will be available for purchase through retailers and distributors, as well as through the company’s Web site.
