Transcend Information Inc. today introduced a new line of adapters and a reader/writer intended for users of Memory Stick media. Memory Sticks are used extensively in Sony-branded digital cameras and digital music players and other devices.

Transcend’s new devices include a PC Card Memory Stick adapter, designed for notebook computers and PDAs that use a PCMCIA expansion slot. The device can handle data burst speeds of up to 16.67MB/sec.
The Memory Stick/CF Adapter is designed to work in PDAs and other devices with a CompactFlash card slot. The device features low power consumption and automatic error correction and retry capability.
Transcend has also introduced a USB 1.1-based Memory Stick Reader/Writer that utilizes a keychain style design. It’s bus-powered and requires no external power supply, and sports data transfer rates of up to and over 350 Kbytes/sec.
Transcend said that the new devices sport compatibility with Mac OS 8.6 and higher, and come with a five year warranty. Pricing on the new devices was not available.
