Macworld UK today reported on a study done by Denmark’s Game Research analysis firm that talks about the habits of online gamers. The new article is entitled Online gamers ‘rich and lonely’.
According to the results of the study, done as a voluntary poll of about 680 gamers in North America and Europe, the average gamer is in his early 20s, is overwhelmingly male, and sports a yearly income of about US$50,000.
Action games are overwhelmingly popular among Game Research’s poll respondents, with Counter Strike and Quake being among the most popular games played. Gaming figures to be a social activity, as well, with more than half of those polled saying they’ll play computer games with other folks around. Almost half have physically met people as a result of playing with them online, too.
Ninety percent of the respondents admit to playing online games too much, and the largest group of players have between 1 to 5 years of experience playing online.
One of the most common complaint among Game Research’s research group? “Too many immature idiots” and “Whiners” cluttering up the online gaming experience.
