Viva, Las Vegas! Writing for the Las Vegas Review-Journal , Hubble Smith reports that Apple will be opening a retail store in the Nevada resort city later this year. The news comes in a new article called Rouse sees good fortune in store.
Apple’s entry into Las Vegas comes in the wake of an expansion happening to the Fashion Show Mall. The shopping center is currently undergoing a US$800 million renovation at the hands of its owners, Rouse Co. The expansion is adding 1 million square feet of retail space to the mall, according to Smith. The first phase of the expansion is supposed to be complete this November.
A spokesperson for the mall owners said that they’re hoping that the expansion will bring in new business in the luxury, middle and moderately-priced markets, with a range of new retailers that are either expanding their presence in the city or are coming to the area for the first time. Rouse is also hoping to attract tourists — something the spokesperson admitted the Fashion Show Mall hasn’t been entirely successful in doing in the past.
“Among [the new tenants] are Tommy Bahama, Jacadi, J. Jill, Cole Haan and Apple Computer,” said Smith.
