Apple’s new rackmount server, the Xserve, may showcase a move toward corporate sales, according to a BusinessWeek Online article.
Apple’s goal in corporate America is to offer the lowest prices on the best technology available, according to BusinessWeek. The article says that this is a “a twist for a company that typically charges premium prices.” However, Apple has its work cut out for it since Wintel systems are firmly entrenched in most corporations. Business Week Online opines that low prices could help Apple get a piece of the pie.
Apple thinks that the Xserve’s low price and reliability will win converts. The company wants to sell servers, “but equally important will be sales of its iMac and other desktop machines once its sales reps get their foot in the door at businesses.”
“The key for Apple is it’s a one-stop shop,” analyst Tim Deal of research firm Technology Business Research is quoted as saying.
