SanDisk Corp. has introduced a new line of industrial grade, solid-state flash storage products that include CompactFlash cards, PC Cards and 2.5-inch FlashDrives. The products are designed “for industrial and telecommunications customers requiring extreme endurance, reliability and data integrity.”
SanDisk Industrial Grade products are designed to provide extended product life, enhanced error-free usage, lower total cost of ownership and significant improvements in read and write operations within a wide range of applications including those that require a high level of small random file access, according to Bo Ericsson, SanDisk’s vice president of OEM marketing at SanDisk.
He said the industrial Grade products offer a number of features for extreme endurance, increased reliability, and enhanced performance that include 4-bit error correction and sophisticated wear leveling; card level MTBF (greater than) three million hours; two million program/erase cycle endurance per block; ruggedized construction with RTV silicone for enhanced shock and vibration; bar code serialization and trace-ability program; seven-year warranty; and an optional UL NEBS compliant product.
SanDisk Industrial Grade products will initially be offered in several form factors including CompactFlash, PC Cards (PCMCIA) and Flash Drives with capacities ranging from 16-512MB, 16MB-2 GB and 32MB-2 GB. Suggested OEM pricing is US$445 for a 512MB CompactFlash and $985 for a 1GB PC Card and 2.5-inch FlashDrive. Volume production is scheduled to start next month.
