iEntertainment Network is using its presence at this week’s E3 Expo to show off WarBirds III for Mac OS X. WarBirds III is the company’s latest incarnation of its long running multiplayer flight simulator.
In WarBirds, you take to the skies and the ground in a variety of aircraft and assault vehicles to compete with other players from around the world for supremacy. Available for online download, WarBirds III requires users to sign up for a subscription in order to play online.
The game allows up to a thousand players to play simultaneously as they compete for territory within player-formed squadrons.
WarBirds has been around for the PC and Mac for years, but until fairly recently, Mac users were restricted to using an older version of the game that eschewed modern 3D graphics acceleration for shaded polygons. iEntertainment Network has brought its Mac version forward to be similar to the PC version, and WarBirds III on the Mac now features beautiful and realistic 3D imagery.
iEntertainment Network is promoting its release of WarBirds III for Mac OS X. The company’s CEO, JW Stealey, said that WarBirds III leverages Mac OS X to deliver a faster frame rate, smaller RAM footprint and other unique features.
“Developing WarBirds III for Mac OS X was so easy and exciting, all future versions of the game will be for Mac OS X only,” said Stealey.
WarBirds III is already available for download from the WarBirds Web site. Additionally, the iEntertainment Network noted that the Mac OS X version of WarBirds would ship to retailers in August, along with the PC version.
The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) runs through tomorrow at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, Calif.
