Aspyr Media today announced that its real-time strategy game Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds is now in duplication. “We do not have an exact date for when the game will ship, but it will most likely be in a few days,” said Aspyr spokesman Chris Silman.

Based on the same engine that powers the enormously popular game Age of Empires, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds enables you to play games of conquest as one of several different powers as depicted in the legendary Star Wars films.

In Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds, you can take the role of the Galactic Empire or the Rebel Alliance, Wookies, Trade Federation, Gungans or Royal Naboo as you help to determine the course of the Galactic Civil War. You manage resources, your own technology and unique abilities only you possess in order to gain an upper hand against your foes. You can also manage units just like you’ve seen in the movies: X-Wings, TIE Fighters, Imperial Walkers and more.

Aspyr said that the first ten thousand copies of the game would also include a limited Prima Games hint book, which provides tips and info about the game. The full guide is available for US$10 through Aspyr’s Web site, and it offers more detailed level walk-throughs, more tips, strategy and other enhancements to help you get the most out of the game.
Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds also incorporates multiplayer modes and a scenario editor that enables you to create your own campaigns.
Final system requirements for Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds call for a PowerPC G3/300 or faster, 64MB RAM, 4x or faster CD-ROM drive, a video system capable of displaying 800×600 graphics at 256 colors, Mac OS 8.6 or higher, or Mac OS X 10.0.4 or higher (9.2 or 10.1 recommended).
