Mac CPU upgrade maker Sonnet Technologies has announced a price drop on some of its upgrade products, as well as a new bundle deal that provides the resources needed to enable certain upgrade users to add performance and Mac OS X to their systems.
Price drops include a US$50 reduction on its Crescendo/NuBus G3 500/1M product, to $249.95; $30 and $50 drops on its Crescendo/7200 G3 400/512 and 400/1M products, to $169.95 and $199.95 respectively; a $100 drop on the Crescendo/WS G3 500/1M to $299.95; a $50 reduction on the Encore/ZIF G3 500/1M to $199.95; and even a drop of $20 on the Piccolo 128MB USB Flash Drive to $149.95.
Please consult Sonnet’s Web site for product descriptions, compatibility information and other data on these products.
Sonnet has also announced a G4/OS X Compatibility Bundle, which puts together the company’s Crescendo/PCI G4 450 CPU upgrade card, its PCI OS X Installer on CD, and a 128MB DIMM suitable for installation in PCI Macs.
The Crescendo/PCI G4 450 adds performance to beige PCI-based Power Macs that would otherwise be excluded from running Mac OS X. In fact, Mac OS X can’t normally be installed on these systems, but Sonnet’s CD-based installer helps work around that issue. The company includes a 128MB RAM DIMM to help give these older systems the breathing room they’ll need to handle the new OS as well. Please bear in mind you’ll need to purchase a retail copy of Mac OS X on your own, however.
Bundled together for $349.95, the G4/OS X Compatibility Bundle runs for $60 less than its individual components purchased separately, according to Sonnet. The bundle will be available through July 15, 2002, so you only have a limited time to act if you’re interested. The bundle is available directly through Sonnet’s online store.
