Mac game publisher Aspyr Media today announced that its long-awaited Mac conversion of Clive Barker’s Undying has gone gold master and has been sent to duplication.
“We do not have an exact date for when the game will ship, but it will most likely be in a few days,” said Aspyr spokesman Zach Rener.
Based on the same graphics engine that powers the popular 3D action games Unreal and Unreal Tournament, Clive Barker’s Undying is a first person action game that puts you in the role of Patrick Galloway, an adventurer sent to the ancestral estate of the Covenant family in 1920’s Ireland. As the name of the game implies, renowned horror author Clive Barker was instrumental in the creation of the game (and even contributed his vocal talents).

The last living Covenant sibling, Jeremiah, is tormented by a horrific family secret — the curse of the Undying King. Jeremiah’s brothers and sisters have returned from the dead and brought minions from beyond the grave with them. It’s up to Galloway to quell the Undying King and to foil the plans of his own archenemy, Keisinger.
This is the latest in a flurry of announcements that Aspyr has made in the last few weeks. The company is bringing a number of new Mac games to market nearly simultaneously, announcing that Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, The Sims Hot Date and Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds are all shipping. Aspyr also recently announced plans to bring Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast to the Mac.
Clive Barker’s Undying was originally slated to come to the Macintosh in 2001, but development problems halted the Macintosh conversion of the title for several months while Mac conversion studio Westlake Interactive focused on other projects. Earlier this year, Westlake’s president, Glenda Adams, took over the game’s conversion herself and it quickly made progress towards completion.
System requirements call for Mac OS 9.1 or Mac OS X 10.1 or higher, 128MB RAM, G3/350MHz or faster, 700MB available HD space, ATI RAGE 128 or Nvidia GeForce2 MX or faster video system with at least 8MB of video memory, and a 4x CD-ROM drive. The game is available for preorder for US$39.95 and should be available on the shelves of Mac game resellers soon.
