Mac CPU upgrade maker PowerLogix today announced its BlueChip Pismo G4 500 processor upgrade, aimed at FireWire-equipped PowerBook G3s (known to many by their development code-name, “Pismo.”
The new upgrade is comprised of a Motorola PowerPC G4-7410 processor running at 500MHz. This provides a 100MHz boost to many PowerBook G3s of that generation that ran at 400MHz instead, in addition to AltiVec registers and other benefits of the G4 architecture.
The BlueChip Pismo upgrade requires that PowerBook G3 owners send their entire laptop computer in to PowerLogix — the company said that this is “because of the proprietary nature of the Pismo processor card.” Installed by a local Austin, Tx. company subcontracted by PowerLogix, the processor card is verified and tested prior to delivery back to you. PowerLogix guarantees a five day or less turnaround to complete the upgrade.
The BlueChip Pismo upgrade is compatible with all software and hardware, including Mac OS X, according to PowerLogix. It’ll be available for ordering beginning June 17.
The BlueChip Pismo 500 costs US$329. That includes domestic FedEx shipping in both directions. PowerLogix is offering an introductory price of $299 through July.
