ThinkFree Corp. today announced the release of its ThinkFree Office software suite CD-ROM at retailers and resellers worldwide, for an estimated retail price of US$49.95.
ThinkFree Office is an OS X native office productivity software suite that leverages Java. It includes a word processor, spreadsheet and presentation graphics — ThinkFree Write, ThinkFree Calc and ThinkFree Show. According to the developer, ThinkFree Office “seamlessly reads and writes” Microsoft Office file formats.
ThinkFree CEO Robert Wise said that his company’s office suite helps to serve a cross-section of the Mac software market that hasn’t been addressed before.
“For small business, mobile, education and home users that require support for Microsoft Word as well as greater Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint compatibility, ThinkFree Office for Mac OS X provides a powerful yet affordable alternative. ThinkFree is committed to empowering Mac users with solutions that offer the freedom of anywhere, anytime, any platform computing,” said Wise.
The software includes a non-expiring license and a printed user guide. Also included is a one-year subscription to ThinkFree’s CyberdrivePlus services. Cyberdrive is a secure Internet-based file storage system hosted on ThinkFree servers. CyberdrivePlus also gives subscribers the ability to download the latest release of the software, including all upgrades, and unlimited e-mail support.
ThinkFree office uses Mac OS X’s Aqua interface and supports OS X APIs like built-in spell checking. Classic and Windows are also supported. Look for it at Mac software resellers including Apple’s online Store, Fry’s Electronics, J&R Computer World, Micro Center, Small Dog Electronics, Tekserve and more.
