Cumberland, RI-based Sustainable Softworks has announced the release of IPNetTunerX 1.0, an Internet connection optimization tool built for Mac OS X.
The developer claims that IPNetTunerX can increase the performance of many types of Internet connections by as much as 20 percent or more. The software works by modifying Mac OS X’s internal BSD networking parameters to optimize them for individual users’ network environments. Over 20 adjustable parameters can be changed, including TCP Window Size, Time Out Intervals, Maximum Segment Size and MTU.
IPNetTunerX can save settings in individual documents so users can invoke them at login. The software includes ready-to-use configuration documents that will automatically optimize most common types of Internet connections.
Additionally, IPNetTunerX includes a Link Rate tool and a TCP Rate test tool. Using these utilities, IPNetTunerX can measure the underlying data link and graph performance so you can see how it’s doing.
Noting that TCP/IP performance tuning can be very complex, Sustainable Softworks Chief Engineer Peter Sichel said that it’s not necessary to understand it all to get the most out of your connection. “With these two tests, users can tweak one or more variables at a time and then immediately test to see what affect the tweaking of a particular parameter has on their connection.”
IPNetTunerX costs US$30 and is available for download from the Sustainable Softworks Web site. If you own an earlier copy of IPNetTuner, you can upgrade to IPNetTunerX for $15.
