4D Inc. today announced the release of 4D Portal 1.5, and the availability of its source code.
4D Portal is a Web application that enables users to create virtual bulletin boards, shared calendars and much more. It’s a completely self-contained, standalone application that can also be run as a CGI to 4D WebSTAR V.
4D Portal 1.5 supports Mac OS X and also contains various feature enhancements to its “portlet” components, according to the developer. What’s more, the source code is available for download as well, so you can customize individual portlets as you wish. Both the update and the source code have been made available from the 4D Portal Web site.
4D Inc. president and CEO Brendan Coveney said that the new version’s release opens up “a world of new possibilities” for Web apps built using 4D portal.
“With support for Mac OS X, 4D Portal v1.5 takes full advantage of all of the benefits offered by this latest operating system, and now the availability of 4D Portal source code means users have increased flexibility in creating fully customized Web applications according to their specific needs,” said Coveney.
