CMS Peripherals is offering a new 160GB capacity Automatic Backup System Plus (ABSplus) on Mac OS and Mac OS X. The ABSplus is a complete backup solution with full recovery, designed for use with desktops and servers and compatible with any FireWire-equipped system.
The 160GB capacity ABSplus for Desktops is list priced at US$599. Besides backup, the solution can also be used as an additional drive volume with high-speed FireWire providing enough throughput for streaming audio and video files, according to Ken Burke, president of CMS Peripherals. Setup is a quick install and settings choice of “express” for single machine backup including multiple partitions, or “advanced” for custom settings including multiple drives on one system, he said. Once set up, using the ABSplus is literally as “easy as plugging in the FireWire cable,” Burke said.
For FireWire speed, ABSplus and ABSplus for Desktops are available on Mac OS 9.1 or higher, including complete native file archiving, full recovery and system bootability. ABSplus and ABSplus for Desktops on Mac OS X include complete native file archiving and full recovery for the user area of the directory tree, with complete Mac OS X system bootability now in beta testing.
ABSplus is available in capacities of 20GB, 30GB, 40GB and now 60GB starting at a list price of $299. ABSplus for Desktops is available in capacities of 40GB, 60GB, 80GB, 120GB, and now, as mentioned, 160GB with a list price starting at $299.
