Ulead Systems — the folks who develop image editing, video editing and Web graphics software — have rolled out Photo Explorer 2.0 for Mac. Photo Explorer is a media management tool for acquiring, organizing and sharing image, video and other media files. It’s Carbonized so it runs on Mac OS X, as well as Mac OS 8.6 through Mac OS 9.x with the CarbonLib extensions installed.
Targeted to photo hobbyists, Photo Explorer 2.0 offers tools for managing photos with folder tree views, image thumbnail previews and drag-and-drop sorting capabilities. There’s also support for video, audio, animation and 3D files. With the application’s ability to read EXIF metadata, digital camera hobbyists can access photo data such as date, exposure and other camera settings. Auto conversion features lets you convert multiple images from one format to another while auto-rename lets you rename files after transferring them from a digital camera.
Photo Explorer’s photo enhancement capabilities remove red eye, crop, rotate or flip photos. There are enhancement tools such as hue, saturation, brightness and contrast, color balance, blur tools, sharpen tools and the ability to add captions or text to photos. All photo enhancement features can be applied to a single photo or batch of images.
Version 2.0’s sharing features let you share photos over e-mail with automated e-mailing features or on the Web with the software’s Web creation tools. You can create custom onscreen slideshows complete with transitions using images, video and audio. Photo Explorer also outputs image thumbnails and slideshows as HTML Web pages to upload to a user’s personal Web site. Don’t have a Web site? Ulead offers a free photo sharing Web site, which has a 20MB limit. Here members can upload, share and print digital images. Photo Explorer 2.0 also offers printing features for creating contact sheets, cards and calendars.
Ulead Photo Explorer 2.0 for Mac is available immediately as a downloadable product from Ulead’s Web site. The street price is US$24.95.
