InoStor has announced its PerformNAS appliance, a scalable Network Attached Storage solution designed for the cross-platform file serving demands of small and mid-sized businesses that have multi-protocol environments serving Mac, Unix, Windows and Linux clients. Shipments to channel partners have begun with general availability to all customers in July.
With a total solution package under US$15,000, customers can start with as little as 216GB of capacity and scale up to 1TB of internal storage in a 2U configuration. The PerformNAS 6000 with an internal tape backup drive supports multiple local tape backup options, including SDLT, SLR, AIT or LTO. The PerformNAS 9000 incorporates a SCSI connection that allows the attachment of an external tape device.
For even more storage-intensive requirements, an external RAID port provides the connection of up to 3TB of additional capacity with external disk storage. All PerformNAS models support NDMP-based backup.
InoStor’s PerformNAS is built around its iceNAS software, a storage-centric OS that’s coupled with high reliability SCSI drives and optimized hardware RAID controller to create enterprise-class file access performance, according to Ken Cruden, InoStor’s president of sales and marketing. PerformNAS supports RAID levels 0, 1 and 5; RAID levels can be mixed across disks, with local or global hot spares. Along with the back-end storage, InoStor’s design provides additional performance benefits with the front-end network connections, Cruden said.
