The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) have announced this year’s Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA). Sponsored by BusinessWeek , the annual awards have been created to reward designs ranging from to PCs to skateboards, with everything in between. The results? Apple tied Samsung for the most awards — five, all told.
Apple’s flat panel G4-equipped iMac walked away with the Gold award for Computer Equipment, along with Handspring’s Treo PDA/cell phone and Belkin’s OmniView SOHO series keyboard/video/mouse switching products. Apple’s iBook laptop also walked away with a silver award in the same category.
Apple’s retail stores got a gold award in the Environment category, along with Apple’s presence at Macworld Expo San Francisco this past January. The iPod scored a gold medal in the Consumer Products field, alongside such diverse products as Malden Mills’ Polartec Heat Blankets and GE’s Advantium 120 ATC Oven.
