Canopus Corp., makers of digital video editing systems, has introduced ADVC-1394, an OHCI analog and DV capture solution for Mac and Windows-based systems (though most of the bundled software is Windows only).
You can use it to capture video from either analog or DV camcorders. ADVC-1394 uses Canopus’s DV codec technology and their locked audio technology for audio and video synchronization. The US$249 system supports a wide variety of popular editing tools, such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, iMovie, and Xpress DV.
ADVC-1394 provides connections for storage devices, CD-RW drives, scanners, digital still cameras, and more. For greater convenience, Canopus also offers an optional, $89 ADVC-1394 Bay breakout box option that moves the DV and analog connections to the front of the personal computer for easy plug-and-play operation, said Robert Sharp, vice president of marketing and domestic sales at Canopus.
ADVC-1394 will be available at the end of the month. Mac system requirements are include Mac OS 9 or later (including Mac OS X) and a free PCI slot.
