Now that Apple is shipping their new Xserve hardware, XserveRack.com, a new Mac OS X-based Web hosting service using Apple’s new Xserve rack-mount server hardware is getting ready to open for business.
Touted as “Mac OS X hosting done right,” the hosting packages are designed to offer enterprise-level solutions on the Mac OS X platform, and at the same time offer resellers the most competitive pricing in the industry, according to Bill Leonard, XserveRack.com’s Internet Systems Engineer.
“There are plenty of excellent Mac hosts out there, but the pricing isn’t really competitive with the rest of the hosting industry,” he said. “We offer hosting on the platform they want, at a price competitive with any large hosting provider out there. This has been a big problem in the past for Mac web developers using FileMaker Pro, which is allowed only 50 databases per server. It was cost prohibitive to do a large site with a FileMaker backend, and host it at a commercial provider. With MySQL, all of those limitations are gone.”
XserveRack.com can not only accommodate Mac web developers who use industry standard PHP scripting language, but also Blue World’s Lasso 5 Professional — and soon ColdFusion MX — to tie into MySQL database software to deploy dynamic Web applications. This lets customers develop on any platform they have at home or in their office (Mac, Linux, Windows, or Unix), then upload the files, Leonard said.
Currently XserveRack.com is offering an early signup program, which will qualify you for special pre-launch pricing and early notification of the service when it goes live. To sign up to qualify for special pre-launch pricing, visit the XserveRack.com Web site.
