Mac game maker Fantasoft recently released a demo of a new adventure game called Down, but many gamers have found it difficult to download — the 90MB file size and limited server availability has compounded problems with grabbing the installer.
Popular Mac download site MacUpdate has saved the day by hosting the demo itself, according to MacUpdate’s Joel Mueller.
Billed as “an exploration game with action and adventure elements,” Down involves you on a “journey to the worlds core tied together by the three crimson pulsars.”
The full game consists of 16 chapters and seven different atmospheric regions to explore, populated with 10 different classes of monsters that will cross your path — some may try to help, while others may try to kill you. You have to fight, find, buy and use items like shooters, keys, “bodyswappers” that allow you to possess nearby creatures, “matter melters” that can unite individual items into something more powerful, messages, and maps.
The demo requires a G3-equipped Mac, Mac OS 9.0 or later (and Mac OS X), and 3D graphics acceleration hardware. For more about the game, including story elements, screenshots and other info, visit the Down Web site.
