DataViz, the folks behind such products as MacLinkPlus and Documents to Go, have updated MacOpener, their Mac-mounting software, to support FireWire for the iPod. In other words, the update allows MacOpener customers to use popular music programs such as EphPod by TrentSoft to transfer, organize and play MP3s from the iPod on a Windows computer equipped with a FireWire card.
MacOpener is a US$49.95 DataViz product that lets PC users open Mac disks as if they were PC disks. MacOpener supports several types of removable media, including floppies, Zip, Jaz, CD-ROMs and, now, FireWire for the iPod.
EphPod is a freeware program developed by Joe Masters of TrentSoft. It’s a Windows application that connects with the iPod. EphPod can transfer songs to the iPod. It also imports Microsoft Outlook contacts, in addition to allowing users to create and edit their own contacts. EphPod can even download the latest news, weather, e-books and movie listings to an iPod from a PC.
