Located at Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City in an old FAQ Schwarz building; it will join a SoHo store slated to open in Manhattan. Both openings coincide with next week’s Macworld New York expo. Joseph Beaulieu, a stock analyst with San Francisco-based investment advisory Morningstar Inc., told Newsday that the new stores are designed to allay the fears of Windows users who might be interested in switching to a Mac but are nervous about its different operating system. “Being able to take that product for a test drive is a good way for Apple to win over new customers,” he said.
Charles R. Wolf, an analyst at Needham & Co., estimated that about half of the customers at the new stores are non-Mac users, but a “fairly significant percentage” probably don’t end up buying anything.
