F.C. Covett has “trial released” Yexi — The Interstellar Adventure, a Mac-compatible multiplayer real time strategy game built using Macromedia’s Shockwave software.
Billed as a “space-oriented real-time strategy simulator,” the game puts you in space as you control a starship. You must dock with starbases to refit your vessel and replenish resources, and you can orbit sidereal objects, launch probes to help uncover cloaked vessels, and harness the power of wormholes to travel vast interstellar distances. You must also use transporters to beam down away teams, rescue life support pods, and transfer supplies and weapons.
In Yexi, you explore uncharted territory and combat other ships possessing different capabilities than your own. The game also features a multiplayer mode where you can team up with others to save the galaxy in six different scenarios.
Available for download and published on CD-ROM, Yexi is identical in either version, though it costs only US$14.99 if downloaded (until the official release date).
