ATI today offered its July 2002 ATI Retail Update for Mac OS, an update suited for owners of various ATI retail graphics cards installed Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X machines.
ATI noted that this driver update is suited for use with Radeon 8500 Mac Edition, Radeon 7000 Mac Edition, Radeon Mac Edition, RAGE Orion, Nexus 128 and Xclaim VR 128 video cards. Please note that ATI has released these drivers in support of its own brand of retail graphics cards, rather than the originally-installed graphics cards it makes for Apple which are installed in many various models of Power Mac G3 and G4 systems.
ATI noted various fixes and improvements to this version of the drivers, including better performance with 3D games using the Radeon 7000 Mac Edition and Radeon Mac Edition — up to a 30 percent improvement, according to the developer.
The new drivers also “address some issues and provide performance improvements” with existing and yet-to-be-released Mac games. Many other changes have been made, too, so visit ATI’s Web site and click on the Release Notes link if you want to see what’s changed since the June retail card driver release.
