El Gato Software LLC today announced a new product called the EyeTV Digital Video Recorder. The device attaches to the Macintosh and enables users to watch and pause live television programs on their Mac, as well as record to hard disk for later viewing.
Comprised of both hardware and software components, EyeTV features a program guide that enables users to find shows using keyword searches by title, actor or genre. Watching shows live, users can “time shift” to pause broadcasts, thus enabling them to tend to interrupts like answering the telephone without missing the broadcast.
EyeTV also provides the ability to skip commercials, instantly replay a scene and watch in slow motion. What’s more, you can also burn what you’ve recorded to VideoCD using third-party CD mastering software.
EyeTV ships today for US$199. It’s available at this week’s Macworld Conference & Expo, and buyers who purchase a unit at the show or on El Gato’s Web site this week get a $20 discount.
