JMP, a business unit of SAS which specializes in business intelligence software and services, is showing a Mac OS X compatible version of JMP 5 at this week’s Macworld Conference & Expo in New York City.
JMP is statistical analysis software for uncovering new methods to boost the performance of an organization and increase overall profitability. It integrates with other software packages and also runs under Mac OS 8.6 and 9.x.
JMP software, which is targeted to such industries as manufacturing, dynamically links statistics and graphics and relates historical data to quality and suggests new directions toward process improvements. JMP’s Design of Experiments facility let users customize experiments, testing various factors and responses. Version 5 debuts new exploratory platforms “to make it even easier to discover the underlying patterns in data that drive continuous innovation and enable organizations to produce top-quality products,” said John Sall, co-founder and executive vice president of SAS.
JMP 5 introduces new exploratory modeling options that also help users get to the root cause of a problem even when there is no model identified, when there are multiple variables with non-linear relationships, or when there are underlying factors not measured in the data, he added. As with previous releases, JMP Version 5 integrates visualization into these modeling tools to make it easy for users to understand the relationships found in their data, according to Sall. New cause-and-effect diagrams have been added to help manufacturing and Six Sigma professionals understand key factors that impact processes, so that Design of Experiments can be used to optimize the process surrounding those key factors, he said.
JMP 5 requires a Power Mac, 32 MB of RAM, and at least 40 MB of hard disk space. Within the US, all registered JMP customers running JMP 4.0+ or StatView (any version) may upgrade to JMP Version 5 for US$395 (corporate customers) and $195 (academic customers). Customers using a release prior to JMP 4.0 don’t qualify for an upgrade price and must purchase JMP at the full retail cost: $995 for corporate and $450 for academic.
