Dr. Rawstock, a Los Angeles, California company that specializes in Final Cut Pro training and solutions, has a new integrated solutions: Dr. Rawstock’s Portable PostHouse, a Final Cut Pro solution that provides HD nonlinear editing on the set or on location.
Portable PostHouse is a full-featured, HD postproduction facility in a box, according to Blake Roberts, Dr. Rawstock spokesperson. It sports a set of tools and features that make real-time content control and manipulation possible, he said. Portable PostHouse is targeted to creative professionals who shoot HD content and demand the efficiencies and advantages of a traditional nonlinear editor, Roberts said.
It converts HD content to DV in real-time while maintaining All Time Codes (NTSC 29.97, HD 23.98, Audio 29.97). During the capture process, content is streamed to high performance SCSI storage devices. Content is captured on tape and simultaneously down converted to a DV signal, which can be edited on a laptop or personal computer while maintaining the quality and HD Timecode.
Other features include the abilities to do on-the-fly down-converting with timecode; review content interactively using Instant Dailies; do rough cuts on-set using Final Cut Pro; and simplify the production process by giving creative professionals immediate access to their content.
Portable PostHouse includes the Evertz Afterburner; Power Mac G4 with Final Cut Pro and a SCSI connection; and Apple 17-inch LCD display; three bay SCSI JBOD with multiple drives on sleds (sizes will vary); DR 1500 with DSR1501 and DSR 1503 installed; and Sony HD/NTSC monitor (model: PVM20l5 with BKM142). What you’ll need that’s not in the box are a HD camera set to 23.98 or 24 frames and audio from DAT that is recorded at 48kHz. By the way, this solution will only work with the 24P camera at this time.
When Dr. Rawstock’s Portable PostHouse is used on-set or location, content is available at the point of capture, which means more time for experimentation, more time to explore new ideas, and most importantly, more time to focus on the overall creative process, Roberts said.
In addition to being an Apple authorized Final Cut Pro Training Center, Dr. Rawstock is a system integrator for all such companies as Apple, Pinnacle, Matrox, Aurora, LaCie, and more. The company also has Final Cut Pro edit suites that are rented out on an hourly basis.
Dr. Rawstock’s Portable Posthouse carries an estimated selling price of US$37,999. Because it’s sold as a turnkey solution, there are no special system requirements with the exception of the camera, which must be 24p.
