Intelli Innovations — the company behind such Mac products as Barcode Producer, Package Tracker, eMail Alert, and PO Toolbox– has announced its first hardware product for the Mac: the IntelliScanner 3000i, a handheld reader that brings scanning barcode symbologies into Mac applications.
The IntelliScanner 3000i requires no drivers or software. Just plug it in to an available USB port, and you’re ready to go. The scanner enters the barcode into the currently running application just as if you typed the alphanumeric value on the keyboard, according to the folks at Intelli Innovations.
The company says it’s completely compatibility with any Mac application capable of accepting regular text input, including FileMaker Pro, AppleWorks, and Microsoft Word. And it can work with custom applications to facilitate repetitive scanning of multiple barcodes. The IntelliScanner 3000i has an optional prefix/suffix/enter key entry to indicate scanning or to submit queries/forms.
It supports Bookland EANs (ISBNs on the backs of books), EAN-8, EAN-13, UPC-A, UPC-E, Codabar, MSI/Plessey, Code 11/39/93/128, Matrix 2 of 5, Interleaved 2 of 5, Industrial 2 of 5, China Postal Code, and Telepen. The scanner has an audible successful scan signal, with visual LED indicator. It comes with a book of special barcodes that can be scanned to set options in the IntelliScanner. The device also has a CCD scanner (red LED array) so there’s no laser to clean and maintain.
The IntelliScanner 3000i USB Barcode Reader is now available for pre-order. The cost is US$279.95. Initial unit shipments will begin “in limited quantities” on Aug. 19, according to Intelli Innovations. Details can be found at the product Web site.
