Mac game publisher MacSoft, a subsidiary of Infogrames, has released a new update to its turn-based strategy game Civilization III. The new 4.67MB patch, 1.21g, is now available for download from Infogrames’ tech support Web site.
Civilization III is the latest installment of the award-winning turn-based strategy game designed by legendary game maker Sid Meier. In Civilization III, you take control of a civilization from its humble beginnings and attempt to uplift it to a modern society. You control all aspects of the civilization’s social, diplomatic, military and economic development, making key decisions that affect what happens. The game was published for the Macintosh by MacSoft earlier this year and has been updated a couple of times since its initial release.
Civ III 1.21g incorporates dozens of fixes, changes and additions, too many to list here. The complete version history is available for review on Infogrames’ Web site. MacSoft said that the new version requires more RAM that previous releases. While Civ III still works on 64MB systems, MacSoft recommends 128MB of physical RAM to avoid having the game run slowly.
MacSoft noted one potential issue of import to Mac OS 8.6/9.x users: If you experience occasional crashes with File Sharing turned on, try turning File Sharing off to see if that corrects it. This problem is not present in Mac OS X.
