Retailers in the U.S. are planning for the official release of Apple’s Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar, a week from Saturday. Parties, demos and other special events will highlight the release of Jaguar on August 24, 2002 at many locations.
While the official release of Jaguar is August 24, Apple and retailers will begin the celebration on Friday, August 23, 2002 at precisely 10:20 pm — a fitting time for Mac OS X 10.2.
Thomas Armes, of ComputerWare by Elite Computers & Software, located in the San Francisco Bay area has been busy planning what he describes as ‘California’s largest Mac OS 10.2 launch party.’
“We are having a huge Mac OS 10.2 party at all of our stores,” Armes told MacCentral. In fact twenty searchlights over the Bay Area will light up the night at our Cupertino (Across from Apple Headquarters), Sunnyvale, Capitola, Berkeley and San Rafael locations starting at 9:00 pm, Friday, August 23. Mac OS 10.2 goes on sale promptly at 10:20 pm.”
Armes expects a “good supply” of Mac OS X 10.2 to be on hand at all locations for the launch party.
Apple representatives will be at all of Armes’ locations demonstrating Mac OS 10.2 beginning at 9:00 pm on Friday night. “ComputerWare will also be giving away a choice of ThinkFree Office, a commemorative Mac OS 10.2 T-shirt or a commemorative Mac OS 10.2 mouse pad with purchase of Mac OS 10.2, while supplies last,” Armes said.
Wichita, Kansas-based Haddock Computer Center will also be having a special event on Friday night. Beginning at 10:00 pm Haddock Computer will start showing off Mac OS X 10.2 to customers, with the product going on sale at 10:20 pm until midnight.
Haddock expects the supply of Jaguar from Apple to be adequate to handle the demand over the weekend. They will offer ThinkFree Office X for $10 for customers that purchase Mac OS X 10.2, as well as numerous other specials in the store over the weekend.
“We expect a great turn-out, and know that 10.2 is going to be hot,” said Richard Haddock, President Haddock Corp.
Apple’s own retail Web site invites users to join them at the nearest Apple store for a special event introducing Jaguar.
