Scott Kevill today announced the official release of GameRanger 3.0, the Mac-only online gaming service. If you’re a current GameRanger 3.0 user, you’ll be updated to the “final” version when you next log in; new users can download the new version from the GameRanger Web site.
GameRanger 3.0 has already been available as a “preview” version before now, but this announcement marks the official release of the final software. GameRanger 3.0 is a completely redesigned and rewritten version of the Mac gaming service, native for Mac OS X and featuring support for the Aqua interface, yet maintaining compatibility with Mac OS 8.6 and higher as well.
GameRanger first hit the Mac gaming scene more than three years ago. The service provides a way for Mac gamers to find each other and to chat, as well as to join or gather online games. It also supports the master game servers of popular online games like Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament. GameRanger has more than 90,000 registered members and supports more than 100 game titles, including most of the major commercial releases offered for the Mac. GameRanger also supports a wide range of shareware and freeware titles.
The service is currently free to use — simply register and download the GameRanger client software to give it a spin.
