The fifth Mac OS X public beta of Alessandro Levi Montalcini’s USB Overdrive X driver is now available. This beta is for Mac OS X 10.1.2 and later and includes support for the new Mac OS X 10.2 “Jaguar.”
USB Overdrive X currently supports mouse and trackball devices only, with support for joysticks and gamepads coming soon, Montalcini said. It can be downloaded from the product Web site.
USB Overdrive is a universal USB driver that handles all USB mice and trackballs from any manufacturer and lets you configure them globally or on an application-specific basis. It reads all kinds of wheels, buttons, switches and controls and supports scrolling, keyboard emulation, launching and complex actions as well as all the usual actions like clicking and control-clicking.
The cost for the finished version of USB Overdrive X will be US$20.
