Aspyr Media is now accepting pre-orders for its forthcoming Macintosh conversion of Clone Campaigns, the official expansion pack for the real-time strategy game Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds.
The new expansion pack, an add-on that requires the original game to work, features 14 new missions based around the characters, vehicles and locations featured in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, the blockbuster movie that opened earlier this year.
Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds is a real-time strategy game built on the same underpinnings as the enormously popular Microsoft title Age of Empires (ported by MacSoft). You take up the identity of one of several different races as depicted in the Star Wars films — the Galactic Empire, Rebel Alliance, Royal Naboo, Gungans, Wookies — and apply your skills and abilities to winning various campaigns. In addition to an extensive single-player mode, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds also features online multiplayer gaming.
In addition to an expanded universe of locations, vehicles and characters, you’re also able to increase populations to 250 units, enabling you to marshal much larger armies than you could before. You can also mix and match civilizations from the original Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds game along with Episode II civilizations, either in single player skirmishes or multiplayer mode. What’s more, you can replay original campaigns for Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds using air cruisers, power droids, and new upgrades and effects from the Clone Campaigns add-on.
Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns is priced at US$29.99. Preliminary system requirements call for Mac OS 9 or higher; 128MB RAM; and RAGE 128 or GeForce2 MX graphics or better (along with the system requirements called for in the original game).
