Propagamma has improved its USB ASIO driver, used to connect professional audio applications with MIDI and audio hardware. The software supports various flavors of Windows and Mac OS 9 as well.
Developed by pro audio company Steinberg, Audio Stream Input Output (ASIO) is a multi-channel audio transfer protocol used by hardware and software makers. Propagamma explained that its USB ASIO driver supports even more external soundcards with various audio applications and virtual instruments at very low latencies — as low as 7ms, according to the company.
The driver is available for free with licensed hardware, including the Aardvark USB3, Apogee MiniME, Ego-Sys U2A / U24, Ego-Sys Gigaport AG & DG, Sound Devices USB pre, Swissonic USB Studio (D), Media-Assistance USB One and Yamaha UW500.
Propgamma also sells the driver for use with other audio interfaces for €60. The commercial driver supports Audiotrak Maya 7.1 USB, Audiotrak OPTOPlay, Creative Extigy, Digidesign Mbox, Edirol UA-1A, Edirol UA-3, Edirol UA-3D, Griffin’s iMic, Opcode DAT-/SonicPort, Onkyo MSE-U33(HB), Onkyo SE-U55, Onkyo SE-U55S(X) and Roland-ED UA-30.
The driver is also in development for Mac OS X; Propagamma plans to make it available in early 2003.
