Pen input system developer Wacom Technology has announced that all of its USB-based tablet systems are supported by Mac OS X 10.2, “Jaguar.” What makes the news of particular interest is that 10.2 introduces a new handwriting recognition technology called Inkwell, which supports Wacom tablets too.
With a Wacom USB tablet installed, Mac OS X 10.2 users can write text that is recognized and converted into letters words. The words can then be inserted into any Mac application that supports text.
Any of Wacom’s USB-based tablets will work with Mac OS X 10.2’s Inkwell technology, ranging from its entry-level Graphire2 to the Cintiq integrated tablet/display system. Wacom said that its driver 4.72-5 or later works with Mac OS X 10.2. It can be downloaded from the Wacom Web site now.
