Last week United Developers subsidiary MacPlay announced that its conversion of Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix had gone gold master. The company anticipates shipping the game on Friday, August 30th. In the interim, MacPlay is offering a special incentive to buy Soldier of Fortune II directly from their online store.
Through Friday or while supplies last, MacPlay is offering buyers of Soldier of Fortune II a special “Value Pack” that bundles their Value Series releases Heretic II and Hexen II together with Soldier of Fortune II, free. Each Value Series title sells for $20 independently, so it’s a $40 value, according to MacPlay.
Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix puts you in the role of John Mullins, a mercenary hired by a covert agency called The Shop to engage in a variety of missions like hostage rescue, intelligence gathering and search and destroy. Built on the Quake III Arena engine, Soldier of Fortune II also employs a variety of enhancements like per-pixel damage modeling and a random mission generator that works both in single-player and multiplayer modes.
Heretic II and Hexen II are both sword-and-sorcery-themed action games and, on the surface, don’t seem to have much in common with Soldier of Fortune II. There is a connection, however: Both games were developed originally for the PC by Raven Software, the same company behind Soldier of Fortune II.
